house in amagansett
Rather than wiping out the memories from years of happy weekends and summers, and the enjoyment of living in the house with her husband, four children and family dog during the pandemic, Jenny Vorhoff, founder of the interior design studio Studio Riga decided to work with architect Anik Pearson again (see Loft on Hudson Street) to carefully weave in a new addition into the existing structure, enhancing the common spaces while adding much needed private rooms for homeschooling, working from home, and adopting a sustainable approach respecting the principles of adaptive reuse.
The primary objective of the project was to design an addition to the traditional shingle-style house that elevates the overall experience upon entering the house, while preserving the architectural character of the existing structure. One of the distinguished characteristics of this project is the thoughtfully planned entrance, which provides a grand and welcoming experience. The transformation of the ground floor includes a spacious study, a large family room with a bar, and seamless access to a newly designed pool, pool house, pergola, and landscaped terrace area. The family room serves as a central gathering space, providing easy access to the newly designed outdoor amenities. By thoughtfully integrating the indoor and outdoor areas, the aim of the redesign was to optimize the potential for leisure, relaxation, and entertainment.
The house maintains its charming scale, its place in the neighborhood, and the longevity of a place that has been lived in by many over several generations.
