Tribeca was the perfect place for New Orleans native Interior Designer Jenny Vorhoff of Studio Riga to start her life in NY, but years later with a family of six, her ‘white-box’ loft apartment ultimately needed restructuring. She teamed again with Anik Pearson Architect to carve out a much-needed extra bedroom and bathroom for her expanded family while adding moldings and formality to the generous common spaces and whittling out private corners for a quiet retreat. Plain sheetrock walls were strategically recovered with stone, wood paneling, leather, and built-in cabinetry. As one steps off the elevator, a newly defined entry foyer, lined in character oak panels, leads to double doors of textured glass which discretely screen the light-filled living spaces beyond. The kitchen, previously marooned in the dark core of the apartment, newly dressed in metal accents, layered with Calacatta Monet marble and bespoke cabinets, was reoriented and opened toward the light and views framed within a paneled dining alcove across the expansive living room. In an intimate study off the kitchen, walls were lined with panoramic landscapes of the scenic Mississippi River Delta and treasured artwork from favored Louisiana artists. While the fixtures in the primary bathroom remained in their original places, they were newly cast into a sophisticated jewel box made of Bleu de Savoie marble wainscot and framed panels inset with figured Calacatta Turquoise. Fit for both entertaining and everyday living, this family home offers grand scale and intimate corners while infusing the whole with refined finishes throughout.
